Audi's overall win at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans with its diesel-powered R18 race car (photos and info here) put the automaker in a celebratory mood, and the Audi R8 V8 Limited Edition is its present to both itself and its racing fans. The special-edition R8 is available only as a coupe finished in any standard R8 color or in an exclusive bare-metal-look gray. The limited edition rides on R8 GT–like, dark-gray thin-spoke 19-inch wheels that frame bright-red brake calipers. That same crimson hue is picked up in the interior, where it adorns portions of the dashboard and the nappa leather seats, and contrasts with the otherwise black interior. The R8 V8 Limited Edition is packed with several R8 options fitted as standard kit, including Audi's magnetic ride adaptive suspension, navigation, a Bang and Olufsen audio system, and Bluetooth phone integration. For more visual punch, and for more money, the Carbon Package is offered here as well, and renders the R8's "side blades,” engine-bay surround, side-mirror caps, instrument panel, and door sills in carbon fiber.
The R8 V8 Limited Edition is powered by the same 424-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 engine as the standard R8 V8, and customers can spec either a gated manual (yes, please) or the R tronic automated manual transmission. The special R8's performance should be the same as that of the normal R8 4.2, but its price and exclusivity won't be. Audi will build just 100 examples of the R8 V8 Limited Edition, at £93,935 per—$150,164 at current exchange rates, $8137 more than a standard R8 V8 in Britain. Notice that British pound sign, though? You need to live in the U.K. to buy one, because the commemorative R8 won't be sold in any other market.
