The contract has been inked, the ground has been broken, and now the race date has been set. Domestic Formula 1 fans, your sport is returning to the United States on June 17, 2012.

Slotted in between the Grand Prix of Canada on June 10, 2012, and the GP in Valencia, Spain, on July 1, the U.S. race will be run at an all-new track currently under construction near Austin, Texas. Called Circuit of the Americas, the 3.4-mile track is expected to be very challenging, with 20 turns and a maximum elevation change of 133 feet. It should be much more of a driver's course than the last U.S. GP, which was held at Indianapolis in 2007.

We've got just over a year to go until we see those magnificent works of art and hear the F1 engines roar again on our soil. Until then, whet your appetite by following the track's progress here.
