Chevrolet's compact Cruze has been on the market for just one model year, but for 2012, Chevy is making some small tweaks to improve the car’s fuel economy. The Cruze lineup will continue as is, starting with the base LS model powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, followed by the Eco, LT, and LTZ models powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. For 2012, all Cruzes equipped with the 1.4-liter turbo and six-speed automatic get a new axle ratio, and as a result see their highway fuel economy increase by 2 mpg across the board, from 37 to 39 mpg in the Eco model, and from 36 to 38 mpg in non-Eco models.
A six-speed manual transmission remains standard on the LS, Eco, and LT, and efficiency for stick-shift Cruzes is unchanged for 2012, with the Eco still rated at 42 mpg on the highway. Other than the fuel economy bumps and a three new paint colors, Chevy has made the popular "Connectivity Plus Cruise" option package standard kit for the 2012 Eco, a touch screen navigation system is now available on the Eco, LT, and LTZ models. There are also some new standard aluminum wheels. It’s nice to see Chevy is continuing to refine its Cruze right out of the gate, but we’re still waiting for an injection of some sport into the car.
