It may wear the more prestigious Range Rover name on the hood, but it's impossible to avoid comparing the new 2012 Evoque to Land Rover's other small vehicle, the LR2. We already knew that the Evoque is far more attractive inside and out, but we now also know that it will be lighter by several hundred pounds and also more efficient. The baby Range Rover easily outmatches the LR2's measly EPA ratings of 15/22 mpg with an impressive pair by any comparison: 19/29 mpg. In fact, both the weight and the fuel economy are bests for any model the company's ever sold in the States.
All of those bests do come at a price, which were also announced. The five-door Range Rover Evoque starts at $43,995, while the three-door model commands a $1000 premium over that. Those prices are for the base "Pure" models, and the five-door will be available in two trim levels above that. The Evoque Dynamic will cost $51,495, while the Evoque Prestige runs $52,395. Each adds larger wheels (19s on the Prestige, 20s for the Dynamic) as well as unique trim elements inside and out. There will be no Evoque Prestige three-door, but there will be a Dynamic; expect to pay $52,895 for that one.
Outside of the different trim levels, all of the expected luxuries such as navigation, rear-seat entertainment, xenon lights, and a backup camera will be offered as options (some as part of larger packages). There also will be myriad levels of personalization available, and the Evoque goes on sale this October.
